With the development of modern society and the improvement of people’s living standards, personal cleaning products have long become essential products in daily life. In addition to the use effects of products, consumers are paying more and more attention to product safety, especially European and American consumers. Pay special attention to this area, and hereby combine our many years of experience to summarize here.
Common allergens in cosmetics mainly include the following
(1) preservative
About 30%-40% of allergens in cosmetics dermatitis are preservatives, most of which are parabens, imidazolidinyl ureas, quaternary ammonium salt-15 (Q-15), formaldehyde and isothiazole Linones. A 10-year survey on the allergy rate of commonly used preservatives in 16 research centers in 11 countries showed that the allergy rate of formaldehyde and methylisothiazolinone has been at a high level. In particular, it should be noted that formaldehyde is rarely used as a cosmetic preservative, but many other preservatives in cosmetics can release formaldehyde after use, such as imidazolidinyl urea, bisimidazolidinyl urea, quaternary ammonium salt-15, DMM B Hydantoin and bronopol (in the case of extreme changes in pH). In the cosmetics regulations of my country and the European Union, the content of free formaldehyde in cosmetics must not exceed 0.2%. In order to improve the mildness and safety of cosmetics, especially children’s cosmetics, many companies have tried to reduce or replace chemical synthetic preservatives in cosmetics in recent years. usage of.
(2) spices
Perfume is a common ingredient that causes skin allergies, accounting for about 20%-30% of cosmetic dermatitis allergens. Fragrance ingredients can cause dermatitis or photosensitive contact dermatitis at the application site, which is one of the reasons why various additives-free skin care products have become popular in the market in recent years.
(3) Surfactant
Surfactants are another major factor causing skin sensitivity and irritation, accounting for about 15% of allergens. Such as oleamidopropyl diamine cationic emulsifier, which is a kind of allergen that has been reported more recently. The irritation of surfactants to human skin, eyes, and hair, especially to the skin and eyes, is a rather difficult concept to define. Up to now, there is still no uniform standard. Surfactants have obvious differences in their stimulus intensity depending on their structure and variety, and even with the same chemical structure, there will be great differences due to different manufacturers, process routes, and raw materials used.
The irritation or sensitization of surfactants to the skin or mucous membranes is mainly caused by the following three factors.
① leachability
Refers to the degree of dissolution of the skin’s own moisturizing ingredients, intercellular lipids, and free amino acids and fats in the stratum corneum by surfactants. Excessive dissolution of these ingredients will damage the surface of the skin, reduce the skin’s ability to retain water, and cause cells to become dander and fall off, resulting in skin tightness, irritation or dryness.
② Penetration
Refers to the ability of surfactants to penetrate through the skin. This effect is considered to be one of the causes of various inflammations in the skin. Surfactant infiltration changes the original structural state of the skin and the compatibility between adjacent molecules, causing skin irritation and even allergic reactions, causing erythema and edema on the skin.
③ Reactivity
Refers to the effect of surfactants on protein adsorption, resulting in protein denaturation and changing skin pH conditions.
④ Hair dye
Hair dye cosmetics have a high probability of causing skin and eye adverse reactions, and they are more irritating to the eyes than the skin, especially p-phenylenediamine.
⑤ Other allergens
In addition, sunscreens, antioxidants, and antibacterial agents in cosmetics are common allergens for skin sensitivity and irritation.
Our company mainly deals in hydrogels and related products, and related allergies have also occurred during the production process for many years. After improving the formula, there are basically no allergies related complaints.
